Probably produced under duress, the videos produced by Hamas invariably feature captives pleading with Israeli leaders to strike a deal for their release,
and sometimes scathingly criticizing the Israeli government's inability to do so. This video is no different, with criticism also directed at the Biden administration.
It is not known when Hamas made the individual footage of the six hostages. But there is at least one clue that the videos could be several months old: one of the deceased hostages, Carmel Gat, described herself as 39 years old. She had just turned 40 in May.
Hamas released the first video footage of the hostages on Sunday, just hours after the Israeli authorities had confirmed the killings and the names of the dead. The images,
which show each of the six hostages giving his or her name and hometown, were broadcast on a Telegram messaging channel affiliated with the armed wing of Hamas, along with longer versions published throughout the week.
In the first video, a 24-year-old hostage named Eden Yerushalmi, who looks thin and has dark circles under his eyes, tells his family that he loves and misses them.
However, he also waves a middle finger at her, complaining about her continued detention and the Israeli government's inaction to free him and the other hostages.
In a statement, Ms. Goldberg-Polin's family called the video "a shocking video of psychological terror".
Ms. Goldberg-Polin's American-born parents had organized a high-profile international campaign for her release and, for much of the outside world, she was a familiar face, a well-known symbol of the hostages' plight. Perhaps it was because of her celebrity that Hamas saved her video for last.

In it, the young man with the sparse beard and wearing a dark red shirt describes the harsh conditions of his captivity.
"Since arriving in Gaza, I have survived with almost no medical care, little food and little water," he says. "I can't remember the last time I saw the sun or breathed fresh air.
She did, however, express hope of being released, declaring, "I'm sure I'll be going home soon."
In April, another video of Ms. Goldberg-Polin gave her family the first proof that she was still alive in captivity.
Until then, they had not been convinced that she had survived the day of her abduction, when her left arm was severed below the elbow by a grenade thrown by assailants into the fallout shelter where she had taken refuge with others attending an open-air music festival.
