One of those killed on Wednesday was 14-year-old Mason Schermerhorn, who was autistic, according to local media WSB-TV. Family members had posted photos of Mason on social media after they were unable to find him and later reportedly confirmed that he did not survive the shooting.

Teacher and coach David Phenix was injured after being shot in the leg and hip, resulting in a fractured hip bone, according to his family's social media posts. He underwent surgery but is in stable condition, a person who identified herself as his daughter said on Facebook.

Law enforcement has not said what type of weapon was used, or how many bullets were fired. The suspect was interviewed and spoke with investigators after being taken into custody, Sheriff Smith said.
